Relative to other important models in the Swoosh’s history, the Nike Cortez had a lackluster 50th anniversary. A year removed from its milestone celebration, the vintage running sneaker continues to flex its creative muscles, emerging in handfuls of new styles.
Recently, the Forrest Gump-associated design appeared in an off white and black color scheme. Unlike classic pairs of the 51-year-old silhouette, the newly-surfaced option features textile construction across its upper. Leather panels appear at the toe, along the tongue, and around the heel, but the use of breathable textile at the profiles — combined with an off white tone — cements the shoe into the lifestyle pantheon. The mostly-dark sole unit also contributes to the Nike Cortez’s life as a style staple, further distancing it from its origins as a performance running shoe.
No firm nike.com drop date has been disclosed by the brand, but that’s likely to change soon. In the meantime, enjoy official photos of the pair ahead.
